Empowering Girls in Every Era
What the Sisters began in 1854 now flourishes as a premier ICSE & ISC institution. Every programme still echoes their conviction that girls deserve the best academics and opportunities to lead.
In 1854, five Sisters of the Good Shepherd stepped onto Bengaluru soil with a singular mission: to educate young women when barely any avenues existed for them in India. Their arrival launched a home for learning that would become Sacred Heart Girls’ High School.
They brought European discipline, compassionate care, and the conviction that every girl deserved a future shaped by intellect and virtue. That founding impulse still animates SHGHS today.
"The Sisters were inspired by the compassion of the Heart of Jesus the Good Shepherd. Their courage laid the groundwork for one of Bengaluru’s most respected all-girls schools."
Their presence signalled a shift: girls would no longer stand outside the classroom doors. The Sisters’ blend of faith, excellence, and service remains the lens through which SHGHS views every decision.
Founded 1854
Good Shepherd Sisters establish a boarding and day school that would evolve into Sacred Heart Girls’ High School, Bengaluru.
The Foundress story is a journey of decisive moments—each one expanding what education could mean for Bengaluru’s young women.
Five Sisters of the Good Shepherd travelled from France to a growing colonial cantonment, determined to open doors for girls who had no schooling of their own.
They created a space for Europeans and Anglo-Indians, combining care, academic discipline, and moral formation under one roof.
Their mission evolved into Sacred Heart Girls’ High School, a community that now welcomes families across Bengaluru while staying rooted in faith-driven service.
The Good Shepherd vision was never static. It continues to shape our campus culture, pedagogy, and student experience every single day.
